Germany shares lower at close of trade; DAX down 2.52%

Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Resources , Insurance and Transportation & Logistics sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 2.52%, while the MDAX index declined 2.36%, and the TecDAX index lost 2.23%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE: ADSGN ), which fell 0.38% or 0.450 points to trade at 118.950 at the close. Merck KGAA O.N. (DE: MRK ) fell 1.29% or 1.160 points to end at 89.050 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE: DTEGn ) was down 1.47% or 0.220 points to 14.730 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE: LHAG ), which lost 5.58% or 0.670 points to trade at 11.330 in late trade. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE: TKAG ) declined 5.54% or 1.080 points to end at 18.405 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE: DBKGn ) shed 4.72% or 0.695 points to 14.035.

The top performers on the MDAX were Rhoen-Klinikum O.N. (DE: RHKG ) which fell 0.38% to 26.135, Deutsche Euroshop AG O.N. (DE: DEQGn ) which was down 0.62% to settle at 42.255 and Covestro AG (DE: 1COV ) which lost 0.67% to close at 39.480.

The worst performers were Aurubis AG (DE: NAFG ) which was down 5.41% to 43.370 in late trade, Fraport AG (DE: FRAG ) which lost 4.62% to settle at 47.965 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE: SZGG ) which was down 4.32% to 27.270 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE: PV ) which rose 0.71% to 86.340, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE: SBSG ) which was down 0.41% to settle at 50.600 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE: AFXG ) which lost 0.99% to close at 33.875.

The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (DE: COKG ) which was down 5.35% to 49.210 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE: EVTG ) which lost 5.24% to settle at 3.746 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE: MORG ) which was down 4.92% to 44.465 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 737 to 137 and 21 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 13.54% to 25.57 a new 3-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.10 to $1273.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.27% or 1.15 to hit $49.41 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.16% or 1.12 to trade at $50.83 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.34% to 1.1280, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.7868.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 94.42.
