Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Construction and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 1.56%, while the MDAX index added 0.24%, and the TecDAX index added 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 7.10% or 4.690 points to trade at 70.740 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 5.16% or 4.590 points to end at 93.480 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRK) was up 4.86% or 4.520 points to 97.490 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which lost 2.06% or 2.450 points to trade at 116.400 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) declined 1.37% or 1.110 points to end at 79.920 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) shed 1.30% or 0.42 points to 32.17.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which rose 5.84% to 29.375, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was up 5.63% to settle at 67.700 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 5.18% to close at 129.050.
The worst performers were Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which was down 6.16% to 45.450 in late trade, Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which lost 5.12% to settle at 12.32 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was down 4.97% to 71.890 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 6.88% to 42.580, Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which was up 6.06% to settle at 31.00 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which gained 5.02% to close at 25.860.
The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 8.17% to 20.390 in late trade, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which lost 2.39% to settle at 39.565 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.08% to 21.885 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 514 to 424 and 18 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 17.46% to 20.37.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.31% or 4.00 to $1278.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.36% or 0.61 to hit $45.59 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.19% or 0.55 to trade at $46.59 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.83% to 1.0934, while EUR/GBP fell 1.40% to 0.8779.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.53% at 98.40.
