Germany shares higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.54%
Credit: © Reuters. – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities , Media and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.54% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index added 0.72%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.33%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE: EONGn ), which rose 4.85% or 0.324 points to trade at 7.003 at the close. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE: RWEG ) added 3.51% or 0.415 points to end at 12.225 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE: VOWG_p ) was up 3.39% or 4.950 points to 151.000 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE: FMEG ), which lost 1.10% or 0.850 points to trade at 76.100 in late trade. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE: BEIG ) declined 0.88% or 0.710 points to end at 80.280 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE: LHAG ) shed 0.51% or 0.060 points to 11.600.

The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG (DE: LEOGn ) which rose 3.55% to 37.730, Salzgitter AG (DE: SZGG ) which was up 3.31% to settle at 35.410 and Lanxess AG (DE: LXSG ) which gained 3.08% to close at 65.560.

The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE: BOSSn ) which was down 2.02% to 56.130 in late trade, Kion Group AG (DE: KGX ) which lost 0.70% to settle at 51.27 and DMG Mori AG (DE: GILG ) which was down 0.47% to 43.600 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Alix Resources Corp (F: 37N2 ) which rose 25.00% to 0.045, United Internet AG NA (DE: UTDI ) which was up 2.02% to settle at 39.115 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE: DLGS ) which gained 1.72% to close at 42.200.

The worst performers were RIB Software AG Na (DE: RIB ) which was down 1.71% to 12.375 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE: NDXG ) which lost 1.48% to settle at 20.590 and Software AG O.N. (DE: SOWG ) which was down 1.23% to 33.675 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 467 to 270 and 39 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.09% to 15.36.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.21% or 2.45 to $1183.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.19% or 1.62 to hit $52.44 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.24% or 1.74 to trade at $55.38 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.0498, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8655.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.44% at 102.46.
