Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, General Financial and Media sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.05% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index declined 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF), which rose 6.14% or 0.78 points to trade at 13.39 at the close. Technip (PA:TECF) added 3.77% or 1.71 points to end at 47.09 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) was up 2.45% or 0.09 points to 3.84 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carrefour SA (PA:CARR), which lost 1.47% or 0.40 points to trade at 26.87 in late trade. Alstom SA (PA:ALSO) declined 1.44% or 0.41 points to end at 27.73 and Vinci SA (PA:SGEF) shed 1.36% or 0.81 points to 58.60.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which rose 6.14% to 13.39, Technip (PA:TECF) which was up 3.77% to settle at 47.09 and Maurel Et Prom (PA:MAUP) which gained 2.68% to close at 2.84.
The worst performers were SCOR SE (PA:SCOR) which was down 6.93% to 34.06 in late trade, Sartorius Stedim Biotech (PA:STDM) which lost 3.84% to settle at 337.25 and SES (PA:SESFd) which was down 3.56% to 24.79 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 452 to 265 and 55 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 0.96% to 23.49.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.55% or 5.90 to $1070.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.97% or 0.36 to hit $36.80 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.08% or 0.43 to trade at $39.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.69% to 1.0947, while EUR/GBP fell 0.65% to 0.7215.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.52% at 97.84.
