Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.11%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare , Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.11%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Morneau Shepell Inc (TO: MSI ), which rose 3.81% or 0.75 points to trade at 20.43 at the close. Mitel Networks Corporation (TO: MNW ) added 3.05% or 0.27 points to end at 9.12 and Ensign Energy Services Inc . (TO: ESI ) was up 2.99% or 0.26 points to 8.95 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Restaurant Brands Intl (TO: QSR ), which lost 4.49% or 2.81 points to trade at 59.80 in late trade. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO: PEY ) declined 4.37% or 1.65 points to end at 36.09 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO: PLI ) shed 4.35% or 0.140 points to 3.080.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 638 to 525 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.39% to 13.32.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.26% or 3.25 to $1264.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.79% or 0.40 to hit $50.45 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.37 to trade at $51.41 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6890.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 98.69.
