Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.01%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the REITs , Real Estate and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.01%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canadian Natural Resources Limited (TO: CNQ ), which rose 9.84% or 3.88 points to trade at 43.31 at the close. NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO: NVA ) added 6.83% or 0.370 points to end at 5.790 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO: ITP ) was up 5.08% or 1.13 points to 23.38 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Dorel Industries Inc (TO: DIIb ), which lost 7.41% or 2.56 points to trade at 32.00 in late trade. HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO: HBM ) declined 4.74% or 0.45 points to end at 9.05 and Linamar Corporation (TO: LNR ) shed 3.77% or 2.34 points to 59.74.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 580 to 552 and 136 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.72% to 12.41.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.76% or 9.15 to $1200.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.17% or 0.59 to hit $49.69 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.04% or 0.55 to trade at $52.56 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.22% to 0.7403, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6998.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 101.97.
