Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.41%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.41%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dollarama Inc (TO: DOL ), which rose 4.06% or 1.43 points to trade at 36.67 at the close. Dorel Industries Inc (TO: DIIb ) added 2.97% or 0.54 points to end at 18.70 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TO: AEM ) was up 2.83% or 1.34 points to 48.69 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TO: APHA ), which lost 20.94% or 1.585 points to trade at 5.985 in late trade. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO: POU ) declined 10.06% or 0.79 points to end at 7.06 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TO: NVA ) shed 9.75% or 0.390 points to 3.610.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 826 to 319 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.82% to 16.40.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.33% or 4.05 to $1243.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $52.85 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $61.59 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.45% to 0.7544, while CAD/EUR fell 0.34% to 0.6651.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.907.
