Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.30%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the S&P/TSX Capped Materials Index, S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index and S&P/TSX Capped Information Technology Index sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.30%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 3.00% or 0.24 points to trade at 8.23 at the close. Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB) added 2.36% or 0.61 points to end at 26.42 and Telus Corp (TSX:T) was up 1.98% or 0.43 points to 22.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which fell 13.79% or 2.34 points to trade at 14.63 in late trade. Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN) declined 12.52% or 1.75 points to end at 12.23 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) down 11.17% or 1.08 points to 8.59.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 708 to 272 and 72 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.46% to 10.76.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.16% or 4.00 to $2,523.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 4.27% or 3.14 to hit $70.41 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 4.77% or 3.70 to trade at $73.82 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 101.73.
