Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the S&P/TSX Capped Information Technology Index, S&P/TSX Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index and S&P/TSX Capped Materials Index sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX:CCA), which rose 10.04% or 5.62 points to trade at 61.59 at the close. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 6.16% or 1.01 points to end at 17.41 and Storagevault Canada Inc (TSX:SVI) was up 3.85% or 0.18 points to 4.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which fell 10.07% or 8.71 points to trade at 77.79 in late trade. Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO) declined 7.39% or 5.19 points to end at 65.03 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) down 7.26% or 0.64 points to 8.18.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 587 to 353 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.02% to 9.19.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.24% or 5.80 to $2,462.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.21% or 1.76 to hit $81.47 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.58% or 1.32 to trade at $85.05 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.48% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 103.44.
