Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.28%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT , Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO: GOOS ), which rose 4.96% or 2.19 points to trade at 46.34 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO: POU ) added 4.03% or 0.67 points to end at 17.31 and Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ) was up 4.00% or 0.20 points to 5.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO: TXG ), which lost 4.24% or 0.570 points to trade at 12.880 in late trade. Kinder Morgan Canada Ltd (TO: KML ) declined 3.84% or 0.69 points to end at 17.30 and Interfor Corp (TO: IFP ) shed 3.73% or 0.94 points to 24.23.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 659 to 452 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 24.11% to 15.34.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.38% or 5.10 to $1348.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.44% or 0.30 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.18 to trade at $73.66 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7900, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6396.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 89.60.
