Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.25%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare , Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.25%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc. (TO: DOO ), which rose 7.78% or 5.07 points to trade at 70.22 at the close. Constellation Software Inc . (TO: CSU ) added 3.05% or 29.39 points to end at 992.00 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO: NXE ) was up 2.06% or 0.050 points to 2.480 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO: IVN ), which lost 6.61% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.400 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TO: BTE ) declined 5.87% or 0.25 points to end at 4.01 and Canadian Western Bank (TO: CWB ) shed 5.25% or 2.00 points to 36.11.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 560 to 541 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 15.66% to 13.00.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 5.20 to $1206.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.91% or 0.63 to hit $70.14 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.38 to trade at $77.84 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.53% to 0.7707, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6603.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.62.
