Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.01%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT , Energy and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.01%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO: GC ), which rose 17.97% or 4.57 points to trade at 30.00 at the close. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO: RBA ) added 7.97% or 2.770 points to end at 37.540 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TO: BBU_u ) was up 7.76% or 2.74 points to 38.05 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Pretium Resources Inc. (TO: PVG ), which lost 8.67% or 0.98 points to trade at 10.32 in late trade. Dorel Industries Inc (TO: DIIb ) declined 6.13% or 2.05 points to end at 31.41 and Open Text Corp (TO: OTEX ) shed 4.75% or 2.07 points to 41.55.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 603 to 505 and 136 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.21% to 12.52.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.10% or 1.28 to $1265.98 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.34% or 0.17 to hit $49.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.25 to trade at $52.12 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7893, while CAD/EUR rose 0.48% to 0.6718.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 93.52.
