Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index, S&P/TSX Capped Materials Index and S&P/TSX Capped Information Technology Index sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE), which rose 4.20% or 0.37 points to trade at 9.18 at the close. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) added 3.76% or 1.22 points to end at 33.70 and Riocan REIT (TSX:REI_u) was up 3.59% or 0.67 points to 19.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which fell 4.50% or 0.71 points to trade at 15.07 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) declined 4.31% or 1.08 points to end at 24.00 and ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) down 3.23% or 1.13 points to 33.87.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 498 to 431 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Shares in ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.23% or 1.13 to 33.87.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.04% to 10.98.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.10% or 2.55 to $2,525.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.02% or 1.42 to hit $68.92 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.78% or 1.31 to trade at $72.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.04% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 101.25.
