Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.15%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.15%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were CCL Industries Inc (TO: CCLb ), which rose 19.56% or 44.37 points to trade at 271.19 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO: IVN ) added 8.81% or 0.200 points to end at 2.470 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO: HBM ) was up 6.28% or 0.48 points to 8.12 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TO: BBDb ), which lost 6.39% or 0.140 points to trade at 2.050 in late trade. Mitel Networks Corporation (TO: MNW ) declined 4.79% or 0.45 points to end at 8.95 and New Gold Inc . (TO: NGD ) shed 4.21% or 0.180 points to 4.100.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 648 to 535 and 149 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.08% to 10.70.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.78% or 8.95 to $1133.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.58% or 0.31 to hit $53.37 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.49 to trade at $55.41 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.28% to 0.7479, while CAD/EUR rose 0.42% to 0.7199.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 103.28.
