Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.69%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy , Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.69%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ), which rose 15.51% or 6.23 points to trade at 46.40 at the close. Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX: ESI ) added 11.59% or 0.32 points to end at 3.08 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX: NVA ) was up 7.89% or 0.120 points to 1.640 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Detour Gold Corporation (TSX: DGC ), which lost 5.70% or 1.42 points to trade at 23.50 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TSX: AGI ) declined 5.69% or 0.56 points to end at 9.28 and Centerra Gold Inc (TSX: CG ) shed 5.05% or 0.64 points to 12.04.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 801 to 308 and 74 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.53% to 13.29.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.81% or 12.55 to $1536.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.52% or 0.85 to hit $56.63 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $60.39 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.04% to 0.7523, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6804.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 98.392.
