Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.24%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.24%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ), which rose 13.53% or 1.13 points to trade at 9.48 at the close. TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO: TOG ) added 6.07% or 0.27 points to end at 4.72 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO: CPG ) was up 5.23% or 0.25 points to 5.03 in late trade.

Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TO: IMG ), which lost 5.87% or 0.200 points to trade at 3.210 in late trade. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO: HCG ) declined 4.10% or 0.77 points to end at 18.01 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO: FVI ) shed 3.91% or 0.16 points to 3.93.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 519 to 505 and 152 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.10% to 14.47 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.30% or 3.80 to $1281.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.98% or 0.60 to hit $62.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.04 to trade at $70.28 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7422, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6627.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 97.375.
