Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.22% – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary , Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.22%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Mitel Networks Corporation (TO: MNW ), which rose 3.35% or 0.34 points to trade at 10.50 at the close. PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TO: PSK ) added 3.27% or 0.91 points to end at 28.70 and Western Forest Products Inc (TO: WEF ) was up 2.80% or 0.070 points to 2.570 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO: PLI ), which lost 5.38% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.230 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TO: CGX ) declined 4.77% or 1.89 points to end at 37.72 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO: PVG ) shed 4.19% or 0.45 points to 10.28.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 636 to 439 and 143 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.75% to 12.99.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 6.01 to $1290.69 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.69% or 0.33 to hit $47.86 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.24 to trade at $51.90 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7961, while CAD/EUR rose 0.42% to 0.6767.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 93.42.
