Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.20%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT , Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ), which rose 8.79% or 34.130 points to trade at 422.340 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ) added 7.13% or 1.140 points to end at 17.140 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX: WDO ) was up 7.07% or 0.460 points to 6.970 in late trade.

Biggest losers included FirstService Corp (TSX: FSV ), which lost 6.80% or 8.52 points to trade at 116.79 in late trade. Husky Energy Inc . (TSX: HSE ) declined 6.62% or 0.63 points to end at 8.89 and Hexo Corp (TSX: HEXO ) shed 5.70% or 0.2000 points to 3.3100.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 544 to 472 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.49% to 11.74 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.73% or 10.95 to $1506.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.27% or 0.15 to hit $56.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $61.53 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7653, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6892.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.430.
