Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.08%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare , Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.08%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO: EFN ), which rose 12.13% or 0.62 points to trade at 5.73 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO: APH ) added 7.68% or 0.930 points to end at 13.040 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TO: BYD_u ) was up 4.80% or 5.02 points to 109.61 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Semafo Inc . (TO: SMF ), which lost 4.57% or 0.17 points to trade at 3.55 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO: YRI ) declined 3.73% or 0.14 points to end at 3.61 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO: SSL ) shed 3.65% or 0.220 points to 5.800.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 573 to 551 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.70% to 12.86.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.01% or 26.50 to $1291.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.21% or 0.15 to hit $71.11 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.06% or 0.05 to trade at $78.18 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.46% to 0.7772, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6563.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 93.11.
