Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 8.80% – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate , Financials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 8.80% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ), which rose 11.48% or 3.32 points to trade at 32.25 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB5 ) added 9.86% or 1.25 points to end at 13.93 and Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ) was up 2.67% or 0.40 points to 15.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ), which lost 20.97% or 3.33 points to trade at 12.55 in late trade. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA: CMIG4 ) declined 20.43% or 1.80 points to end at 7.01 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA: BBAS3 ) shed 19.91% or 6.73 points to 27.08.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 378 to 92 and 6 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 38.26% to 50.34 a new 52-week high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.89% or 11.20 to $1247.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.49% or 0.24 to hit $49.31 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 3.79% or 5.10 to trade at $129.47 .

USD/BRL was up 7.53% to 3.3730, while EUR/BRL rose 7.04% to 3.7471.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 97.74.
