Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 2.33%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.33%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ), which rose 3.11% or 0.33 points to trade at 10.95 at the close. Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ) added 1.99% or 0.29 points to end at 14.87 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA: RUMO3 ) was up 1.21% or 0.04 points to 3.34 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Klabin Unt (SA: KLBN11 ), which lost 5.93% or 1.22 points to trade at 19.37 in late trade. Lojas Americanas SA (SA: LAME4 ) declined 5.14% or 0.90 points to end at 16.62 and Lojas Renner SA (SA: LREN3 ) shed 5.03% or 1.10 points to 20.79.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 210 to 74 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.94% to 51.49.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.41% or 5.00 to $1233.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.34% or 0.13 to hit $38.19 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.37% or 0.47 to trade at $127.42 .

USD/BRL was down 0.30% to 3.5885, while EUR/BRL rose 0.08% to 4.0848.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.17% at 94.63.
