Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3), which rose 2.99% or 1.74 points to trade at 59.84 at the close. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) added 1.94% or 0.55 points to end at 28.97 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 1.69% or 0.44 points to 26.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4), which lost 5.31% or 1.28 points to trade at 22.83 in late trade. Vale SA Pref (SA:VALE5) declined 4.74% or 1.51 points to end at 30.36 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) shed 4.70% or 1.02 points to 20.67.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 208 to 137 and 30 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 6.03% to 33.21 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.20% or 14.95 to $1235.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.15% or 1.16 to hit $52.67 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.63% or 0.91 to trade at $144.27 .
USD/BRL was up 1.89% to 3.1485, while EUR/BRL rose 1.49% to 3.3074.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 102.19.
