Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which rose 2.87% or 0.16 points to trade at 5.74 at the close. BRF SA (SA:BRFS3) added 2.39% or 0.92 points to end at 39.42 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) was up 2.30% or 0.37 points to 16.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which lost 8.70% or 0.73 points to trade at 7.66 in late trade. Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) declined 5.97% or 1.20 points to end at 18.91 and Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) shed 5.08% or 0.51 points to 9.52.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 188 to 143 and 34 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.21% to 34.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.01% or 12.85 to $1287.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.97% or 0.52 to hit $52.88 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 1.55% or 2.17 to trade at $138.10 .
USD/BRL was down 0.05% to 3.1364, while EUR/BRL rose 0.59% to 3.3472.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 100.06.
