Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.21%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.21%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Banco Bradesco SA Pref (SA: BBDC4 ), which rose 1.44% or 0.43 points to trade at 30.20 at the close. Raia Drogasil SA (SA: RADL3 ) added 1.20% or 0.800 points to end at 67.470 and Banco Bradesco SA (SA: BBDC3 ) was up 1.09% or 0.31 points to 28.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Braskem SA (SA: BRKM5 ), which lost 4.35% or 1.07 points to trade at 23.54 in late trade. Lojas Renner SA (SA: LREN3 ) declined 2.84% or 0.71 points to end at 24.26 and Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) shed 2.49% or 0.45 points to 17.65.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 183 to 152 and 29 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.51% to 34.79.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 3.11% or 40.85 to $1271.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.84% or 0.41 to hit $49.22 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.20% or 0.30 to trade at $147.70 .

USD/BRL was up 1.48% to 3.2570, while EUR/BRL rose 1.39% to 3.6497.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.45% at 96.08.
