Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 2.50%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials , Consumption and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 2.50%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ), which rose 1.40% or 1.12 points to trade at 81.17 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) added 0.58% or 0.05 points to end at 8.65 and WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) was up 0.48% or 0.09 points to 18.84 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ), which lost 6.55% or 1.11 points to trade at 15.84 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET6 ) declined 6.31% or 1.24 points to end at 18.42 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) shed 5.18% or 1.19 points to 21.80.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 305 to 158 and 32 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.20% to 47.91 a new 52-week high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.44% or 5.30 to $1206.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.94% or 0.65 to hit $70.16 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $102.78 .

USD/BRL was up 0.90% to 4.1425, while EUR/BRL rose 0.54% to 4.8341.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.62.
