Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 2.27%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 2.27% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Hypermarcas SA (SA: HYPE3 ), which rose 1.38% or 0.44 points to trade at 32.44 at the close. Equatorial Energia SA (SA: EQTL3 ) added 0.98% or 0.61 points to end at 62.68 and Multiplan SA (SA: MULT3 ) was up 0.48% or 0.33 points to 69.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ), which lost 8.18% or 1.43 points to trade at 16.05 in late trade. Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA: PETR4 ) declined 7.75% or 1.29 points to end at 15.35 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) shed 7.59% or 0.68 points to 8.28.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 272 to 153 and 28 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.67% to 34.07.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 3.12 to $1282.02 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.94% or 1.10 to hit $55.66 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.36 to trade at $127.22 .

USD/BRL was up 1.02% to 3.3130, while EUR/BRL rose 2.11% to 3.9067.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 93.74.
