Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.97%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials , Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.97% to hit a new 6-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Magazine Luiza SA (SA: MGLU3 ), which rose 6.22% or 6.99 points to trade at 119.40 at the close. Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ) added 5.14% or 0.75 points to end at 15.33 and B2W Cia Digital (SA: BTOW3 ) was up 4.12% or 1.05 points to 26.55 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Banco Bradesco SA (SA: BBDC3 ), which lost 5.13% or 1.23 points to trade at 22.75 in late trade. Banco do Brasil SA (SA: BBAS3 ) declined 4.53% or 1.20 points to end at 25.30 and Banco Bradesco SA Pref (SA: BBDC4 ) shed 4.06% or 1.07 points to 25.29.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 239 to 139 and 30 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 7.83% to 35.93.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.36% or 4.70 to $1306.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.50% or 0.33 to hit $66.97 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.57% or 0.66 to trade at $115.67 .

USD/BRL was up 2.34% to 3.8079, while EUR/BRL rose 0.52% to 4.4108.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.37% at 94.84.
