Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.94%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrials , Consumption and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.94%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA: BRKM5 ), which rose 3.05% or 1.43 points to trade at 48.35 at the close. Via Varejo SA (SA: VVAR3 ) added 2.71% or 0.13 points to end at 4.93 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) was up 1.74% or 0.50 points to 29.25 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA: MRFG3 ), which lost 5.47% or 0.33 points to trade at 5.70 in late trade. BRF SA (SA: BRFS3 ) declined 5.02% or 1.23 points to end at 23.26 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ) shed 3.43% or 0.81 points to 22.81.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 263 to 199 and 36 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 10.28% to 33.15.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 1.35 to $1283.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.18% or 1.18 to hit $52.86 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.86% or 1.95 to trade at $103.00 .

USD/BRL was up 1.63% to 3.8148, while EUR/BRL rose 1.61% to 4.3341.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 95.968.
