Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.88%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Financials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.88%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Magazine Luiza SA (SA:MGLU3), which rose 5.62% or 7.76 points to trade at 145.76 at the close. Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3) added 2.65% or 1.18 points to end at 45.63 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) was up 2.17% or 0.84 points to 39.61 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which lost 4.88% or 0.57 points to trade at 11.11 in late trade. Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) declined 4.73% or 1.50 points to end at 30.20 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) shed 4.56% or 0.78 points to 16.32.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 232 to 162 and 26 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.45% to 35.41 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.00 to $1218.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $69.06 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 0.15% or 0.16 to trade at $108.88 .

USD/BRL was up 0.75% to 3.7624, while EUR/BRL rose 1.08% to 4.3639.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 95.00.
