Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.28% – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities , Electric Power and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB3 ), which rose 6.87% or 1.35 points to trade at 21.00 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ) added 5.09% or 2.56 points to end at 52.87 and Klabin Unt (SA: KLBN11 ) was up 3.55% or 0.60 points to 17.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BRF SA (SA: BRFS3 ), which lost 3.65% or 1.43 points to trade at 37.74 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) declined 3.30% or 0.36 points to end at 10.54 and Gerdau SA Pref (SA: GGBR4 ) shed 3.07% or 0.46 points to 14.54.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 244 to 167 and 33 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.36% to 32.87.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.99% or 13.30 to $1325.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.20% or 0.13 to hit $63.84 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.67% or 2.05 to trade at $121.03 .

USD/BRL was down 0.56% to 3.2059, while EUR/BRL fell 0.13% to 3.9222.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 90.38.
