Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 2.37%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Real Estate and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.37%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ), which rose 7.12% or 1.05 points to trade at 15.80 at the close. Vale SA Pref (SA: VALE5 ) added 6.92% or 2.05 points to end at 31.68 and Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) was up 6.90% or 2.15 points to 33.32 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB5 ), which lost 3.76% or 0.48 points to trade at 12.27 in late trade. Klabin Unt (SA: KLBN11 ) declined 1.19% or 0.18 points to end at 15.00 and Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ) shed 1.08% or 0.20 points to 18.37.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 228 to 125 and 30 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.39% to 30.24.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.36% or 16.40 to $1219.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.60% or 1.24 to hit $48.96 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.06% or 0.09 to trade at $141.18 .

USD/BRL was down 1.99% to 3.1067, while EUR/BRL fell 0.83% to 3.3329.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.19% at 100.41.
