Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.83%
Credit: © Reuters. – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials , Telecoms and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.83%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ), which rose 4.98% or 1.29 points to trade at 27.19 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ) added 2.91% or 0.13 points to end at 4.59 and Itau Unibanco Banco Holding SA (SA: ITUB4 ) was up 2.55% or 0.79 points to 31.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lojas Renner SA (SA: LREN3 ), which lost 3.01% or 0.68 points to trade at 21.88 in late trade. Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA: PCAR4 ) declined 2.69% or 1.43 points to end at 51.66 and MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA: MRVE3 ) shed 2.47% or 0.27 points to 10.66.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 175 to 171 and 37 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.26% to 36.05.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.85% or 9.70 to $1133.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $53.27 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.42% or 0.61 to trade at $143.62 .

USD/BRL was down 0.32% to 3.3545, while EUR/BRL fell 0.45% to 3.4845.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 103.31.
