Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.92%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Industrials and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.92%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA: BRKM5 ), which rose 6.81% or 3.06 points to trade at 48.00 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) added 5.77% or 0.48 points to end at 8.80 and JBS SA (SA: JBSS3 ) was up 5.06% or 0.45 points to 9.35 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ), which lost 0.93% or 0.21 points to trade at 22.28 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET6 ) declined 0.82% or 0.20 points to end at 24.10 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ) shed 0.52% or 0.11 points to 21.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 271 to 117 and 33 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 5.76% to 30.28.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1325.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.84% or 0.54 to hit $64.92 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.25% or 0.29 to trade at $118.12 .

USD/BRL was down 0.55% to 3.3033, while EUR/BRL fell 0.63% to 4.0628.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 89.75.
