Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.54%
Credit: © Reuters. – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.54% to hit a new 5-year high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ), which rose 10.30% or 0.71 points to trade at 7.60 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) added 6.67% or 0.58 points to end at 9.27 and Gerdau SA Pref (SA: GGBR4 ) was up 6.24% or 0.74 points to 12.59 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ), which lost 2.47% or 0.86 points to trade at 33.99 in late trade. Multiplan SA (SA: MULT3 ) declined 1.11% or 0.81 points to end at 72.28 and BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA: BRML3 ) shed 1.03% or 0.14 points to 13.46.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 253 to 144 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.38% to 24.64.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.61% or 8.01 to $1330.21 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.30 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.15% or 0.19 to trade at $128.88 .

USD/BRL was down 0.19% to 3.1430, while EUR/BRL fell 0.57% to 3.7274.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 92.81.
