Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.67%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Financials and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.67% to hit a new 5-year high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA: GOAU4 ), which rose 7.42% or 0.40 points to trade at 5.79 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) added 3.85% or 0.24 points to end at 6.48 and Lojas Renner SA (SA: LREN3 ) was up 2.99% or 0.90 points to 31.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ), which lost 11.04% or 2.34 points to trade at 18.86 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET6 ) declined 9.13% or 2.15 points to end at 21.40 and Smiles ON (SA: SMLE3 ) shed 1.99% or 1.31 points to 64.54.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 206 to 164 and 45 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.59% to 25.44.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.35% or 4.47 to $1295.47 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.11% or 0.53 to hit $48.36 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.37% or 0.48 to trade at $128.82 .

USD/BRL was down 0.64% to 3.1421, while EUR/BRL fell 0.22% to 3.7112.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 93.11.
