Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.60%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Industrials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.60% to hit a new 6-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA: BRKM5 ), which rose 6.82% or 3.33 points to trade at 52.15 at the close. Bradespar SA (SA: BRAP4 ) added 4.63% or 1.52 points to end at 34.37 and Cielo SA (SA: CIEL3 ) was up 4.51% or 0.57 points to 13.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Banco Santander Brasil SA Unit (SA: SANB11 ), which lost 5.17% or 2.30 points to trade at 42.20 in late trade. Raia Drogasil SA (SA: RADL3 ) declined 3.35% or 2.18 points to end at 62.82 and Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA: UGPA3 ) shed 2.36% or 1.07 points to 44.25.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 286 to 183 and 27 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.46% to 41.48.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 5.20 to $1217.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.04% or 1.35 to hit $64.83 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.49% or 0.55 to trade at $112.95 .

USD/BRL was up 0.77% to 3.7278, while EUR/BRL rose 0.56% to 4.2203.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.85.
