Australia shares lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.50%

Investing.com – Australia equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Telecoms Services , Utilities and Gold sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.50%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Link Administration Holdings Ltd (AX: LNK ), which rose 5.45% or 0.370 points to trade at 7.160 at the close. Sandfire Resources NL (AX: SFR ) added 4.85% or 0.400 points to end at 8.650 and Blackmores Ltd (AX: BKL ) was up 4.84% or 6.07 points to 131.52 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Automotive Group Holdings Ltd (AX: AHG ), which lost 8.97% or 0.305 points to trade at 3.095 in late trade. Seven West Media Ltd (AX: SWM ) declined 8.00% or 0.060 points to end at 0.690 and Telstra Corporation Ltd. (AX: TLS ) shed 5.88% or 0.180 points to 2.880.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 685 to 528 and 398 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 7.21% to 11.597.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.49% or 6.40 to $1311.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $70.92 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $78.22 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.23% to 0.7510, while AUD/JPY fell 0.05% to 82.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 92.63.
