Australia shares lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.09%
Credit: © Reuters. – Australia equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms Services , Metals & Mining and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.09%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Orocobre Ltd (AX: ORE ), which rose 5.12% or 0.310 points to trade at 6.370 at the close. Corporate Travel Managment Ltd (AX: CTD ) added 4.35% or 1.070 points to end at 25.650 and Vocus Group Ltd (AX: VOC ) was up 4.24% or 0.100 points to 2.460 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Asaleo Care (AX: AHY ), which lost 5.59% or 0.080 points to trade at 1.350 in late trade. Boral Ltd. (AX: BLD ) declined 3.69% or 0.240 points to end at 6.270 and Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (AX: FMG ) shed 3.09% or 0.150 points to 4.710.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 623 to 584 and 381 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 3.32% to 11.995.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.42% or 5.40 to $1285.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.77% or 0.55 to hit $71.92 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.83% or 0.65 to trade at $79.16 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7519, while AUD/JPY rose 0.59% to 83.69.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 93.78.
