Australia shares higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.11%
Credit: © Reuters. – Australia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT , Metals & Mining and Resources sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.11%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ardent Leisure Group (AX: AAD ), which rose 14.00% or 0.350 points to trade at 2.850 at the close. Isentia Group Ltd (AX: ISD ) added 13.99% or 0.435 points to end at 3.545 and Sirtex Medical Ltd (AX: SRX ) was up 12.05% or 3.745 points to 34.825 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Blackmores Ltd (AX: BKL ), which lost 18.59% or 29.900 points to trade at 130.950 in late trade. Mcmillan Shakespeare Ltd (AX: MMS ) declined 10.61% or 1.555 points to end at 13.095 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (AX: A2M ) shed 6.39% or 0.140 points to 2.050.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 561 to 541 and 315 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.71% to 12.339.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.38% or 5.10 to $1341.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.39% or 0.67 to hit $47.43 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.16% or 0.58 to trade at $49.38 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7603, while AUD/JPY fell 0.03% to 76.32.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 94.64.
