Australia shares higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.73%

Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Metals & Mining and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.73% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Vocus Group Ltd (AX: VOC ), which rose 10.25% or 0.250 points to trade at 2.690 at the close. G.U.D. Holdings Ltd (AX: GUD ) added 8.28% or 0.890 points to end at 11.640 and Independence Group NL (AX: IGO ) was up 6.35% or 0.250 points to 4.190 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sirtex Medical Ltd (AX: SRX ), which lost 4.97% or 0.720 points to trade at 13.760 in late trade. Graincorp Ltd (AX: GNC ) declined 2.44% or 0.210 points to end at 8.380 and Mineral Resources Ltd (AX: MIN ) shed 2.24% or 0.420 points to 18.350.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 648 to 536 and 380 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.11% to 11.320.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.68% or 8.84 to $1294.16 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $51.77 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $57.80 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.04% to 0.7849, while AUD/JPY fell 0.02% to 88.05.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 93.28.
