Australia shares higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.71%

Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , Resources and Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Eclipx Group Ltd (AX: ECX ), which rose 11.67% or 0.105 points to trade at 1.005 at the close. Syrah Resources Ltd (AX: SYR ) added 9.26% or 0.100 points to end at 1.180 and Altium Ltd (AX: ALU ) was up 4.51% or 1.390 points to 32.210 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Regis Resources Ltd (AX: RRL ), which lost 2.12% or 0.100 points to trade at 4.620 in late trade. Mayne Pharma Group Ltd (AX: MYX ) declined 1.77% or 0.010 points to end at 0.555 and Viva Energy Group Ltd (AX: VEA ) shed 1.41% or 0.03 points to 2.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 674 to 444 and 408 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 9.02% to 13.409.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.20% or 2.55 to $1293.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.78% or 0.48 to hit $61.30 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.22 to trade at $71.02 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.6930, while AUD/JPY fell 0.07% to 76.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.333.
