Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology, S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Discretionary and S&P/ASX 200 Telecom Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:TAH), which rose 10.18% or 0.06 points to trade at 0.62 at the close. Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX) added 8.79% or 0.24 points to end at 2.97 and JB Hi-Fi Ltd (ASX:JBH) was up 8.39% or 5.65 points to 73.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT), which fell 11.93% or 0.17 points to trade at 1.26 in late trade. Aurizon Holdings Ltd (ASX:AZJ) declined 8.84% or 0.32 points to end at 3.30 and Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN) down 3.79% or 1.96 points to 49.74.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 587 to 496 and 445 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
Shares in Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) fell to 52-week lows; losing 11.93% or 0.17 to 1.26. Shares in Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX) rose to all time highs; up 8.79% or 0.24 to 2.97. Shares in Aurizon Holdings Ltd (ASX:AZJ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 8.84% or 0.32 to 3.30. Shares in JB Hi-Fi Ltd (ASX:JBH) rose to all time highs; gaining 8.39% or 5.65 to 73.02. Shares in Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.79% or 1.96 to 49.74.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 14.92% to 13.57.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.45 to $2,473.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.53% or 0.41 to hit $77.25 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.26 to trade at $79.92 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.66, while AUD/JPY rose 0.70% to 97.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.01.
