Power Grid (NS:PGRD) Corporation, India’s largest power transmission company with Maharatna status, reported a muted performance for Q2 FY25 on Wednesday, with results falling short of expectations. The company recorded consolidated revenue of INR 11,277 crore, up a mere 0.1% from INR 11,267 crore in Q2 FY24. The bulk of this came from its core transmission segment, which generated INR 11,197 crore in revenue, marking a slight rise from INR 10,991 crore in the same quarter last year.
Operating profit for the quarter remained relatively flat at INR 9,701 crore, with the EBITDA margin slipping to 86% from 87% in Q1, narrowly missing the market estimate of 87.4%. The increase in finance costs—up 20% to INR 2,441 crore—further weighed on the company’s profitability. Consolidated net profit showed a minimal rise of 0.3% to INR 3,793 crore, compared to INR 3,781 crore a year ago, reflecting the challenges posed by rising expenses.
Power Grid’s board announced an interim dividend of INR 4.50 per share, which will be disbursed to shareholders on December 4, 2024, with a record date of November 14, 2024.
