Benzinga - Powergrid and HDFC Bank (NS:HDBK) emerged as the top gainers, while Hero MotoCorp (NS:HROM) and Bajaj Auto (NS:BAJA) were among the biggest losers.

Powergrid was the star performer with a 4.18% increase, as its stock price rose from its last close of ₹276.35 to ₹287.90. HDFC Bank, another major gainer, saw its stock price increase by 2.63% from ₹1417.10 to ₹1454.30.

Other top gainers included Axis Bank, which saw a 2.41% rise in its stock price from ₹1062.95 to ₹1088.60. NTPC also performed well, with a 2.05% increase from ₹338.75 to ₹345.70. Kotak Bank rounded off the top five gainers with a 1.80% rise from ₹1731.40 to ₹1762.50.

On the other end of the spectrum, Hero MotoCorp was the biggest loser, with a 3.90% drop in its stock price from ₹4852.60 to ₹4663.35. Bajaj Auto also took a hit, with a 2.52% decrease from ₹8509.70 to ₹8295.20.

Other major losers included Coal India, with a 2.03% drop from ₹455.75 to ₹446.50. Eicher Motors saw a 1.92% decrease from ₹3902.85 to ₹3828.10. Lastly, TCS saw a 1.78% drop from ₹4103.80 to ₹4030.65.

Indian benchmark indices continued their upward trend for the sixth consecutive session, with the Nifty surpassing the 22,200 mark for the first time.

At close, the Sensex stood at 73,057.40, up by 349.24 points or 0.48%, while the Nifty was at 22,197.00, up by 74.70 points or 0.34%. Among the sectors, banking, media, power, and realty witnessed gains ranging from 0.8% to 2%, while auto, IT, and metal sectors saw declines of nearly 1% each.
