Investing.com -- In the ongoing expansion of automakers into the electric vehicle space, India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki (NS: MRTI ) is expected to launch a strong hybrid vehicle in the upcoming year. However, sources privy to the matter ensure that the automaker is unlikely to launch an electric vehicle in the next year but surely before 2025.

MSI is drafting a green mobility road map, which consists of electric vehicles, flexi fuel vehicles and CNG, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Maruti and Toyota (T: 7203 ) had recently showcased hybrid vehicles in an event related to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which is to be held for three days, starting January 10, 2021.

In this event, Toyota will display its hybrid vehicles, while Maruti Suzuki will display its battery manufacturing capabilities. According to a CNBC report, MSI presented a roadmap to Gujarat CM, on reducing oil imports and urged the Central and state governments to lower GST on hybrids, and level it with EVs.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki India ended Wednesday’s session at a 3.46% rise amounting to Rs 7,434.9 apiece.
