Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.83%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining , Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.83% to hit a new 3-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were LY Corp (TYO: 4689 ), which rose 1.31% or 5.30 points to trade at 408.90 at the close. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO: 9531 ) added 1.21% or 41.00 points to end at 3,416.00 and Aeon Co., Ltd. (TYO: 8267 ) was up 0.65% or 19.00 points to 2,938.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO: 5202 ), which lost 6.65% or 54.00 points to trade at 758.00 in late trade. Inpex Corp. (TYO: 1605 ) declined 6.49% or 144.50 points to end at 2,080.50 and Chiyoda Corp. (TYO: 6366 ) shed 6.15% or 23.00 points to 351.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 3429 to 352 and 86 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.61% to 18.88 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.62% or 0.55 to $88.27 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.76% or 0.69 to hit $90.02 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.53% or 9.85 to trade at $1,837.35 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 149.70, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 156.79.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 106.80.
