Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.58%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.58%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (T: 1605 ), which rose 2.83% or 18.3 points to trade at 663.9 at the close. Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T: 3101 ) added 2.16% or 33.0 points to end at 1560.0 and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (T: 4063 ) was up 2.06% or 270.0 points to 13405.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fujikura Ltd. (T: 5803 ), which lost 5.41% or 18.0 points to trade at 315.0 in late trade. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T: 4568 ) declined 4.64% or 409.0 points to end at 8415.0 and Terumo Corp. (T: 4543 ) shed 4.02% or 168.0 points to 4007.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2273 to 1237 and 184 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 22.48.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.43% or 0.18 to $41.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.27% or 0.12 to hit $44.20 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.40% or 7.40 to trade at $1851.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 106.89, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 123.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 95.270.
