Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.55%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.55%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ), which rose 2.80% or 52.0 points to trade at 1907.0 at the close. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T: 4911 ) added 2.41% or 170.0 points to end at 7230.0 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T: 8303 ) was up 2.19% or 36.0 points to 1681.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Yamaha Corp. (T: 7951 ), which lost 5.15% or 310.0 points to trade at 5710.0 in late trade. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T: 3099 ) declined 3.95% or 36.0 points to end at 876.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ) shed 3.64% or 12.0 points to 318.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2146 to 1417 and 219 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 14.88.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.11% or 0.06 to $53.20 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $58.55 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.25 to trade at $1577.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.18% to 109.08, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 120.15.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.820.
