Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.66%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.66%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ), which rose 15.07% or 455.0 points to trade at 3475.0 at the close. Hitachi Zosen Corp. (T: 7004 ) added 8.36% or 72.0 points to end at 933.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ) was up 7.00% or 29.0 points to 443.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T: 4568 ), which lost 3.50% or 103.0 points to trade at 2839.5 in late trade. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (T: 8233 ) declined 2.88% or 34.0 points to end at 1147.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 2269 ) shed 2.59% or 190.0 points to 7160.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1851 to 1669 and 233 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 20.23.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.94% or 0.77 to $82.50 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.62% or 0.53 to hit $85.39 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.70 to trade at $1766.60 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 114.29, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 132.40.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 94.078.
