Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.42%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.42%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T: 4519 ), which rose 6.78% or 246.0 points to trade at 3874.0 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ) added 5.14% or 320.0 points to end at 6550.0 and Fanuc Corp. (T: 6954 ) was up 4.06% or 955.0 points to 24500.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T: 8801 ), which lost 3.69% or 93.5 points to trade at 2443.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T: 8830 ) declined 3.18% or 116.0 points to end at 3528.0 and TOTO Ltd. (T: 5332 ) shed 2.68% or 150.0 points to 5450.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2170 to 1392 and 205 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 28.94.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.96% or 0.69 to $71.36 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.80% or 0.60 to hit $74.84 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.34% or 6.00 to trade at $1790.70 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.20% to 113.35, while EUR/JPY rose 0.00% to 127.96.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 96.175.
